Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has mourned the former Ol Kalou MP David Kiaraho as a hardworking and peace-loving leader, urging mourners to uphold unity during his final send-off.
Speaking on Tuesday while visiting the family of the late Kiaraho at their home in Runda, Nairobi, he also conveyed a message of condolence from President William Ruto.
He described the deceased as a dependable legislator whose contributions within and outside Parliament left a lasting impact on nation-building.
“David Kiaraho made great friends beyond his home region, and despite being a politician, I do not recall him creating enemies or unnecessarily ruffling feathers,” Kindiki said.
The Deputy President noted that the late former MP stood out for his calm and unifying approach to leadership, saying his character earned him respect across political and regional divides.
Kindiki added that the government would support the family in ensuring Kiaraho receives a dignified send-off, in line with his legacy.
“He was a peaceful man and a peacemaker, and so we must honour him even in eternity,” he said.
He assured the family that the government would respect all decisions made by the family and the church regarding burial arrangements.
“We will respect every decision that the church and the family will make with regard to the wishes of the departed and the send-off ceremony,” Kindiki said.
At the same time, he cautioned leaders and mourners expected to attend the burial, scheduled for April 10, 2026, against engaging in divisive politics.
He called for restraint and unity, emphasising that the occasion should reflect the values Kiaraho stood for during his lifetime.
“Let us honour his legacy by maintaining peace and avoiding political divisions during his final journey,” Kindiki said.
Family members, friends, and leaders who attended the visit described Kiaraho as a humble and approachable leader who valued dialogue and cohesion in public service.
