
A 28-year-old woman died after being struck by lightning in Awendo, Migori County.
The deceased, identified as Cynthia Auma, was reportedly hit by lightning on the night of March 26, 2026, at around 10:40 p.m. during a heavy downpour accompanied by a thunderstorm. Police who visited the scene found her lifeless body inside her rented house.
Neighbours told officers they heard a loud thunderclap and saw lightning strike the house before discovering that Auma had been killed instantly. Police confirmed that the body had no visible physical injuries.
The scene was processed and documented before the remains were moved to Rosewood Mortuary in Rongo, where a post-mortem examination is expected.
Authorities have urged residents to take precautions during thunderstorms, including staying indoors and avoiding contact with electrical appliances, as heavy rains continue across the region.
Elsewhere, police in Narok County launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found in a sugarcane plantation in Transmara West Sub-county. Pupils reportedly stumbled upon the body, prompting the alert.
Preliminary findings indicate the deceased is a middle-aged man whose identity remains unknown.
The body was discovered lying in the plantation with multiple deep cuts on the neck, left cheek, and back. Investigators noted the absence of visible blood stains or signs of struggle at the scene, suggesting the victim may have been killed elsewhere and later dumped at the location.
The scene was processed and documented by crime scene personnel before the body was moved to Transmara West Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched a manhunt and are appealing to anyone with information to assist in identifying the deceased or tracing the suspects.
In Tana River County, police contained a flare-up of inter-community clashes in Galedyertu Sub-county that left at least 10 people injured. The violence erupted on the morning of March 27, 2026, in the Tangamano cluster area following a land dispute between members of the Wardei and Pokomo communities.
Authorities said the clashes involved crude weapons, including pangas and arrows, resulting in injuries on both sides.
Five people from each community were hurt and rushed to Hola Referral Hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Security teams have since restored calm, and authorities urged both communities to maintain peace as efforts to resolve the land dispute are escalated to higher administrative levels.
