Speaking during the official opening of the conference, Ruto said Kenya is focused on strengthening its diplomatic presence and advancing national interests in an increasingly complex global environment.
“Our goal is to position Kenya not only as a prime destination for investment, but also as a trusted partner in shaping the future,” the President said.
The conference, which runs until Monday, March 30, 2026, is being held under the theme “Advancing Kenya's Interests in a Rapidly Evolving Geopolitical Landscape.”
It brings together Kenya’s diplomatic corps, including Heads of Mission, deputies and consuls-general, to align foreign policy with the country’s development priorities.

President William Ruto opens up the 19th ambassadors and high commissioners conference in Nairobi on March 28, 2026/PCSRuto described the gathering as an important platform for reviewing Kenya’s diplomatic agenda and strengthening coordination among missions abroad to advance economic diplomacy, peace and security, and global partnerships.
“It is a distinct honour for me to join you at this 19th Ambassadors’ Conference as you deliberate on how best to advance Kenya’s interests in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape,” he said.
The President noted that he had reviewed the conference programme and was impressed by its breadth and depth, saying it reflects a comprehensive agenda that addresses key diplomatic priorities.
According to him, the programme covers critical areas including economic diplomacy, the realities of an emerging polycentric global order, peace and security, climate diplomacy and green industrialisation, as well as science, technology and innovation, global health diplomacy and the blue economy.
Ruto emphasised the need for Kenya’s diplomatic missions to remain proactive and responsive to global changes while promoting the country’s economic and strategic interests.
The event was also attended by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Kenya’s ambassador to the United Nations Environment Programme, Mama Ida Odinga.
The conference is expected to provide a platform for diplomats to review foreign policy priorities, strengthen coordination between government agencies and missions abroad, and develop strategies to enhance Kenya’s position in international trade, climate action, and regional peace initiatives.
Ruto reiterated that Kenya’s diplomatic corps plays a critical role in driving the country’s economic transformation by attracting investment, strengthening partnerships and promoting Kenya’s interests on the global stage.
He urged the diplomats to use the conference to align their strategies with national development goals and ensure Kenya remains competitive and influential in the evolving geopolitical landscape.
