Winners at the 2025 Motorsport Excellence Awards/ HANDOUT

This year’s Motorsport Excellence Awards, set for Saturday at the Windsor Golf and Country Club, will cast a bright spotlight on the sport’s next generation, 254 Motorsport Club member Altaf Ganatra has revealed.

The awards, which started in May last year, are primarily organised by the 254 Motorsport Club in partnership with Motorsport Kenya, and have quickly grown into a key fixture on the local motorsport calendar.
Ganatra, who also serves as the managing director of Ganatra Plant and Equipment Limited, underlined the buzz building ahead of this year’s edition.
“We are organising the Motorsport Excellence Awards this Saturday at the Windsor Golf Club. We are really looking forward to the event,” Ganatra said.
The ceremony aims to honour standout performers from the 2025 motorsport season, celebrating excellence across the board.

“The event will be recognising all 2025 winners in various motorsport categories,” he added.
The categories span the full spectrum of the sport, including autocross, rally raid, tarmac racing, karting and rallycross (RX), highlighting the depth and diversity of Kenya’s motorsport scene.
Ganatra noted that a key pillar of this year’s awards will be the rising wave of young competitors making their mark.
“We are seeing a lot of youth joining the sport. One of our focus areas for the Motorsport Excellence Awards will be feting them and recognising them, as they are the future of motorsport in Kenya,” he said.
Last year’s edition delivered a thrilling roll call of achievers. Cheche Ababu, Karamveer Rooprai and Muaaz Adil were recognised in the rallycross and autocross categories, while the Motorsport Pioneer Award, presented by Kenyan legend Ian Duncan, celebrated innovation and boundary-pushing excellence.
Jose Sardinha stood out with achievements across multiple disciplines, joined by notable names such as Githengi Kimamo, Fahim Abdul Malik, Gurdeep Singh Bharij and Azaad Manji.
The Baldev Chager Champion’s Path Award shone the spotlight on emerging talents, including Neel Gohil, Wayne Fernandes, Amaan Ganatra, Ankush Shah, Harpreet Singh Bhogal and Maxine Wahome.
Meanwhile, the Motorsport Mastery Award, presented by Carl Tundo, recognised top tarmac specialists Sarmad Asif, Sam Ngunjiri, Eric Nderi, Sammy Munene Kathurima and Leroy Otto for their precision and dominance on the asphalt.
In the same breath, the Tejveer Rai Resilience and Spirit Awards—presented by Onkar Rai—honoured outstanding driver-navigator crews, with Edward Maina and Anthony Gichohi leading the list for their grit and perseverance in the face of demanding rally conditions.
Ganatra is confident that this year’s edition will raise the bar even higher. “We want to have a bigger and better event than last year, and I think we will.”
