Wanjiru Mbugua-Karani has been elected as the new President of Tennis Kenya for a four-year term.

The former Tennis player was elected unopposed.

Wanjiru takes over from James Kenani, who served the federation for two consecutive terms.

“I'm so excited to stand before you as your new president and honoured by the trust that you have placed in me. This is a great responsibility to serve, build, and lead Tennis Kenya forward with clarity, courage, and care,” said Wanjiru.

She added, “Allow me to share just a few priorities that will guide us. Priority one is governance and trust. This means we will have clear systems, clear communication, and consistent decision-making. Trust is a foundation on which opportunity is built, and we will protect it fiercely.”

She is a transformative figure in tennis, having made history as the first woman elected President of Zone IV. She also currently serves as Vice President of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT).

“Priority two, we intend to be a listening federation. We will listen before making decisions, and listen before reacting. Our stakeholders will be our masters, not because we have asked them to speak for us, but because tennis can attach their lives, open doors, and walk the journey with them,” she remarked in her speech.

She added: “Priority four, a strong tennis Kenya brand that opens doors. In today's world, capability creates opportunity, but credibility sustains it. We tend to use digital platforms and data to tell our story clearly.”

During the Elective Annual General Meeting, Nancy Nduku was elected Secretary General after garnering 24 votes against James Maina’s 9.

“Transformation is not possible without unity. I commit to leading with integrity, humility, and an unwavering focus on teamwork. I will listen—truly listen—to your ideas, your concerns, and your dreams for our sport. Leadership is not about standing above others; it is about standing with others. And I stand with each of you today,” said Nduku.

She added: “Let us move forward with purpose. Let us build a federation that inspires pride. Let us create an environment where our athletes can excel, our clubs can flourish, and our supporters can believe in the future we are shaping. This is our moment. This is our team. This is our dream—and now, we make it real. Let’s get to work and take tennis to heights we have never reached before.”
