After a challenging debut in the Kenya Cup Volleyball, A Plus have shown tangible signs of growth, with head coach Paul Miricho confident his side is now better prepared to mount a stronger challenge.
The second edition of the Kenya Cup, starting today at Nyayo Stadium, has provided the perfect platform for debutants A Plus to gain top-flight experience.
Miricho says the early matches, particularly their opening encounter against the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), exposed gaps in cohesion, but each outing has contributed to a clear upward trajectory.
“We decided to take part to get the experience, and now you can see the difference with more matches and friendlies under our belt,” Miricho said.
Formed in September last year, the squad initially struggled with limited playing time, resulting in moments of hesitation during matches. The coach believes the team is now settling into its rhythm, with improved understanding and chemistry on court.
Progress is particularly evident among the middle blockers, both defensively and offensively, with Hannah Moraa and Angela Shivikhwa emerging as key influencers.
Opposite hitter Tirsa Jelimo has added further balance to the attack, while senior players like outside hitter Noel Snawa guide the younger members, accelerating their integration.
“The technical bench continues to reinforce structure and communication, which is steadily improving and starting to reflect in performances,” Miricho noted.
Looking ahead to the second round, Miricho is tempering expectations but remains optimistic. He is focusing on winning sets, tightening teamwork, and building strong squad bonds as stepping stones toward competitiveness.
“If teamwork clicks early, this team can be something special,” he said. “We will approach each fixture as a final.”
Miricho expects a tougher rematch against DCI, with fans set to witness a more competitive and confident A Plus side. He emphasised that sustained success at the top level will also depend on improved funding, noting: “I have never been disappointed—the progress is there, and we keep working on our weaknesses. With the right support, this team can consistently compete against established sides.”
The combination of growing cohesion, emerging stars, and strong leadership positions makes A Plus Volleyball Club a side to watch as the Kenya Cup progresses.
