Deputy President Kithure Kindiki flags off the Mpirani Last Mile Electrification Project in Ganze Constituency, Kilifi County, on March 19, 2026. /DPCSDeputy President Kithure Kindiki has launched a Sh13 million electrification project in Ganze constituency, Kilifi county.
The Mpirani Last Mile Electrification project will connect 155 households, businesses, schools and health facilities.
The initiative forms part of a wider plan to expand access
to electricity across the county and support economic activity at the
grassroots.
“Kilifi county has been allocated Sh2.1 billion to connect more than 23,500 additional households to power under the national last mile programme,” Kindiki said noting that increased electricity access is expected to boost small enterprises and improve livelihoods.
During the visit, Kindiki also inspected the Kilifi–Kikanjuni–Kasava–Kitengwani–Silala–Sangaweni–Bamba road, one of 385 road projects underway in the county at a combined cost of Sh25.5 billion.
He said the road is expected to ease movement and open up the region to trade and investment once completed.
“We are focusing on projects that directly improve the lives of citizens, including roads, electricity and markets,” Kindiki said.
He linked the projects to the broader cooperation between UDA and ODM, saying the arrangement is intended to accelerate development across regions.
“We are very clear that Kenya will only be changed not by empty politics but by the politics of development,” he said, adding that the government is prioritising service delivery over political contestation.
He said beyond roads and electrification, the government is investing in the blue economy within the coastal region.
This includes Sh983 million to support beach management units, the construction of landing sites and a fish market, as well as the acquisition of deep-sea fishing boats and a search and rescue vessel.
Kindiki also pointed to the construction of modern markets in Mtwapa, Watamu, Mnarani and Mkuluni, which are expected to provide improved trading spaces for small-scale traders.
“Every county is receiving development projects. The aim is to ensure no region is left behind,” he said.
The DP said the government’s approach is to integrate infrastructure development with economic opportunities, particularly for youth and small businesses, in a bid to drive inclusive growth.
He was accompanied by Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung'aro, Ganze MP Kenneth Tungule and other leaders during the inspection tour.
The visit is part of a series of engagements by broad based government across counties to assess the progress of projects and outline plans aimed at improving connectivity, trade and access to essential services.
