Nyanza Regional Commissioner Flora Mworoa has called on politicians and residents to maintain peace and decorum during the upcoming visit by President William Ruto to the Nyanza region.
The president is set to begin his four-day development tour within the region on Friday.
Mworoa said security agencies have put measures in place to ensure that all presidential meetings and public engagements proceed smoothly without disruptions.
She expressed concern over past incidents where some politicians allegedly mobilised youths who engaged in shouting matches during other leaders’ speeches, disrupting official functions.
She urged politicians to sensitise their supporters on the need to respect leaders who will address the gatherings.
"It's therefore my call to all our politicians to speak to their supporters to make sure that those who have an opportunity to attend these meetings respect all leaders who will be able to speak or who will be attending the functions," she said.
Mworoa noted that the regional security committee has taken note of such incidents and has strengthened security arrangements to prevent similar occurrences during the President’s visit.
The regional commissioner also warned against the use of abusive language or carrying weapons to the meetings, saying security officers will not hesitate to take action against those who violate the law.
“We do not expect any usage of bad language or carrying of weapons because in the past we have seen a few people coming to these meetings with weapons,” Mworoa said.
She revealed that during a previous presidential visit, security officers arrested a young man who was found carrying a knife but could not explain why he had it.
Mworoa said authorities want the meetings to remain peaceful and orderly to allow residents to listen to the President and other leaders without disruptions.
“I expect that members of the public will come out in large numbers to welcome His Excellency the President,” she noted.
