A police officer fatally shot a suspected robber and arrested two others following a late-night operation in Githurai 44, Nairobi.
This followed a robbery with violence incident targeting a member of the public, police said.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 17, at around 12:15 a.m. in the Budalangi area within Kasarani Sub-County.
Nairobi Police Commander Issa Mohamud said a team on patrol received a tip-off from members of the public about three suspects who had attacked and robbed a man.
The officers immediately launched a pursuit of the suspects.
During the chase, one of the suspects was confronted in the Soweto area. Police say he was armed with a knife and attempted to stab one of the officers, narrowly missing him but slashing his jacket. In response, the officers shot and fatally wounded him.
The two remaining suspects were arrested shortly after the pursuit, taken into custody, and positively identified by the victim as the individuals involved in the robbery.
Police recovered a mobile phone believed to belong to the complainant, as well as the knife allegedly used by the deceased suspect.
The body of the deceased was later moved to the City Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have launched further investigations into the incident as efforts continue to address cases of violent crime in the area.
Police say they have intensified operations to curb robberies following complaints from residents who reported being attacked in estates and robbed of their valuables.

The body of Stephen Mwangi, 41, was found decomposed in the Rwathika River long after his murder. He had been reported missing by his relatives since March 4, 2026.
Police said they are investigating the murder but have not established the motive.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem
Elsewhere, police in Bungoma County have launched investigations into a suspected murder after a man died weeks after sustaining injuries during a fight with his brother.
The incident was reported on March 16 at around 3:30 p.m. The deceased, identified as 56-year-old Joshua Wanyonyi Murunga, had been involved in a physical altercation with his younger brother on the night of February 27 at about 9:00 p.m.
The cause of the disagreement remains unclear.
During the fight, Murunga was left unconscious but was only taken to Bungoma County Referral Hospital on March 5, where he was admitted for treatment.
Police say the victim was pronounced dead on March 15 while still undergoing treatment at the facility.
An investigating team that visited the hospital established that the body had no visible external injuries, raising questions about the exact cause of death.
The body was moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have opened investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and determine whether any criminal liability is involved.
