According to police, the accident occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at around 4:30 p.m. and involved a Toyota Succeed and a motorcycle, a Ducati.

The two were travelling from Marurui towards Ruaka.

Witnesses said a vehicle joined the main road from UN Avenue, and the motorcycle subsequently rammed into the right side of the vehicle, causing the rider and passenger to fall onto the tarmac.

Kamala sustained fractures on both legs and died on the spot, while Mwai suffered severe head injuries and succumbed while being rushed to hospital.

Police officers visited the scene and processed it before moving the bodies to the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where they are awaiting postmortem examination and preservation. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Kamala was a popular social media commentator. He and Mwai had a young child, his friends said.

They had attended the Safari Rally event in Naivasha and were returning home when the accident happened.

His close friends described him as a passionate rider who inspired many within the biking community.

For instance, Mbeche Samuel recalled that the journey began in 2021 when Luhya Kidd Jnr bought his first Chinese motorcycle, an experience that brought him immense joy and marked the start of his growth in the biking world.

“We joined the biking world almost at the same time,” Samuel said, noting that the late rider’s simple gestures—such as liking and commenting on fellow bikers’ posts—helped build a strong sense of community.

Over time, Luhya Kidd Jnr grew into a motorcycle dealer and rode a wide range of bikes from different countries, including China, Japan and Germany.

Recently, he had acquired an Italian Ducati, a machine his friend said symbolised how far he had come in the biking scene.

Friends described him as a humble and friendly man who related easily with people and was admired within the biker fraternity.

The tribute also served as a call for greater road safety, urging bikers and motorists alike to bring sanity back to the roads as accidents continue to claim many lives.

“Helmet down today,” Samuel wrote.

His death has left the biking community mourning a young man remembered for living his passion for motorcycles. Mourners lamented rising fatal accidents and called for caution to address the trend.

Police said they are investigating the incident.
