According to a formal announcement shared by the family, friends and well-wishers will gather this week to celebrate the life of Muiruri. A memorial service and candle lighting ceremony have been scheduled for Wednesday, 18 March 2026.

The event will take place at the Blue Springs Hotel, located along Thika Road in Nairobi. The service is expected to begin at 6:00 pm.

This gathering will allow the close-knit Mugithi community and friends of Fredrick to offer their support to the grieving family before the travel to the ancestral home.

"My darkest days. R.I.P my son Muiruri," Mike Rua shared in his initial emotional confirmation of the loss.

The Final Send-Off

While the specific location of the interment remains private to close family and associates, the artist has provided a channel for those wishing to contribute towards the funeral expenses.

Organisers have highlighted that contributions are being coordinated through Salome Mwangi. The family has opted for a transparent process as they navigate the logistical and emotional hurdles of burying a young, grown son.

A Family in Grief

Mike Rua has been a pillar of the Kenyan vernacular music scene for over two decades. Often referred to as the "King of Mugithi," his career has been defined by his ability to draw massive crowds across the country.

However, the sudden death of his son has seen the performer step away from the limelight to focus on family matters.

Details regarding the cause of Fredrick's death have not been made public. The family has requested privacy during this sensitive time.

The loss comes at a time when the entertainment industry is increasingly vocal about the mental and physical well-being of artists and their kin.

Support from the Industry

The Mugithi sub-genre, which Rua helped pioneer alongside other greats, is known for its strong sense of community. Several colleagues in the industry are expected to attend the Wednesday service to stand in solidarity with one of their own.

Fredrick was known to many within Rua’s inner circle as a vibrant young man with his father's charisma. As the burial approaches, the focus remains on providing a dignified send-off for a son taken too soon.
