The family and police have identified the second victim of a murder-suicide incident that involved two Masinde Muliro University (MMUST) students at Maraba in Kakamega county.
Carey Chibokosia, 21, was a third-year student pursuing Bachelor's of Education.
His parents identified him on Wednesday March 11 at the mortuary pending postmortem.
Chibokosia is believed to have stabbed and killed his colleague, Dariel Luvunga, 21, before he died by suicide.
The bodies were found in the same house and the motive is yet to be established, police said.
Relatives of Luvunga, a third-year student said they last spoke to him on the evening of March 8.
The following day, repeated attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
On March 10, the relatives visited the residence and discovered the door locked from the inside, police said.
Peeking through a small opening, they saw someone lying on the floor.
Police were alerted and responded to the scene by forcibly entering the house.
Inside, they found two lifeless bodies, one male adult lying on the floor with multiple injuries to the head and stomach and another, Chibokosia’s, hanging in the bathroom.
A blood-stained kitchen knife was recovered at the scene. Authorities said no suicide note was left and the motive remains unknown.
Both bodies were transported to Kakamega General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing. Police said they are yet to establish the motive of the murder-suicide incident.
A crowd gathered at the scene as police moved the bodies to the mortuary.
Such incidents have been on the rise amid efforts to solve them.
And a 70-year-old man died after a wall collapsed on him during the demolition of a house in Suna West, Migori county.
Police said the incident occurred on Monday evening at Bishop Oginda area as workers were demolishing an old semi-permanent house in preparation for new construction.
The team was in the process of bringing down the structure when one of the walls suddenly gave way and fell on the victim identified as Joseph Wasonga.
Wasonga sustained internal injuries and was rushed to Lifecare
Hospital in Migori for treatment. However, medical personnel pronounced him
dead on arrival.
Police later visited the scene and the hospital and confirmed the
incident.
Authorities have since summoned the owner of the building and the
contractor overseeing the demolition to record statements as part of ongoing
investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
The body of the deceased was moved to Migori County Referral
Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
