TikTok has become a central hub for Kenyan entertainment and digital business. However, even the biggest stars are not safe from sudden bans. In recent months, several creators with millions of followers have seen years of work vanish in an instant.

The Latest Victim: MC Bull

The most recent high-profile case involves the comedian and actor MC Bull, also known as John Ndegwa. On 11 March 2026, his account was suddenly banned. At the time of the suspension, he had over 1.1 million followers.

According to sources, the ban was triggered by TikTok’s automated moderation tools. Like many others, MC Bull has faced the reality that digital influence can be fragile.

Kenya’s most followed creator lost his account with over 4.7 million followers in early March 2024 due to a sudden, unspecified ban.

The popular dancer expressed disappointment, stating he received no prior warnings or violations, and his team engaged in efforts to recover the account. main account.

Njoki Murira: In late 2023, she faced a temporary suspension on her account of 2.7 million followers.

Content Moderation by the Numbers

TikTok has significantly increased its policing of content in Kenya. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, the platform banned over 43,000 Kenyan accounts.

The scale of removals is massive. Between July and September 2025, over 580,000 videos were taken down. Additionally, 90,000 live sessions were interrupted for violating community guidelines.

Common reasons for these actions include sexual content, hate speech, and harassment.

The Road to Recovery

Losing an account is not always the end of the road. Most of these creators have successfully fought back. Geoffrey Mosiria, a Nairobi official and influencer, detailed the tadius recovery process when his account with over 1.2 million followers was banned in August 2025.

His account was originally flagged for a video recorded at a nightclub. Mosiria managed to restore it by appealing to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK).

How to Recover a Suspended Account

If your account is banned or suspended, there are specific steps you can take to attempt a recovery:

  1. Use the In-App Appeal: When you see the suspension notice, tap the "Appeal" button immediately. Follow the instructions to explain why the decision might be wrong.
  2. Submit a Feedback Form: If the app is inaccessible, use the TikTok Feedback Form in a web browser. Select "General Account Inquiry" to file your report.
  3. Provide Evidence: Always include your exact username and any screenshots of the suspension notice.
  4. Be Professional: Keep your communication polite and truthful.
  5. Use the Original Device: Appeals are often more successful if sent from the phone or tablet you used most frequently to log in.
  6. Be Patient: Do not send multiple appeals, as this can slow down the review process.
