The Orange Democratic Movement has postponed the county delegates' elections for Migori County that had been scheduled for Friday, March 13, 2026.
The party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) announced that the elections would not proceed as earlier planned and would instead be held at a later date.
In a statement on Wednesday, NECC chairperson Emily Awitta said fresh dates for the exercise will be communicated in due course.
She urged party members in the affected electoral areas to remain patient as they await further communication on the new timelines.
“Pursuant to the notice dated 9th March 2026, the National Elections Coordinating Committee wishes to notify all party members and stakeholders of the following correction: the county delegates elections for Migori County, which had been scheduled for Friday, 13th March 2026, stand postponed until further notice,” the statement read.
ODM has been conducting grassroots elections across the country as part of efforts to reorganise its party structures ahead of future political activities.
In a notice announcing the delegates' elections on March 9, ODM outlined the process for delegates seeking to take up leadership roles within the county party structures.
Eligible aspirants are required to submit their applications and make payments through the party’s official Paybill number 985900, using the specific position they are contesting for as the account reference.
According to the notice, non-executive positions will attract an application fee of Sh1,000. Women, youth, persons with disabilities and special interest representatives will pay Sh2,500.
Those seeking executive positions, excluding the chairperson, will be required to pay Sh5,000, while aspirants for the chairperson’s position will pay Sh10,000.
This comes days after ODM in Kisumu County postponed its scheduled delegates' elections following a directive from party leader Oburu Oginga.
In a letter dated March 6, 2026, addressed to the chairperson of the ODM Party NECC, Oburu directed that the polls scheduled for Friday be cancelled due to concerns over the prevailing political environment.
“Following the prevailing polarised environment informed by intelligence, I have made a decision to inform you to cancel the elections slated for tomorrow, Friday,” the letter read in part.
Oburu, who also serves as the senator for Siaya County, instructed the committee to comply with the directive and notify all concerned parties about the postponement.
The elections were meant to select party delegates in Kisumu County as part of ODM’s internal party structures and preparations for future political activities.
The ODM elections committee has yet to announce a new date for the Kisumu delegates’ elections.
