Detectives are investigating an incident where a 43-year-old woman was stabbed to death in an attack by her husband in a domestic fight in Maragua, Muranga county.

Police identified her as Mercy Wamaitha. She had an argument with her husband before he allegedly stabbed her in the thigh. This turned fatal after she bled to death.

Police said the man called a friend to help him take his wife to the hospital. She died in the house before she could be taken to the hospital following the March 8 incident.

A murder weapon, a kitchen knife, was recovered and kept as an exhibit, police said, adding the suspect was arrested for murder.

Officials say cases of femicide have been on the rise amid a campaign to address them.

Elsewhere in Afwein, Garissa county, one Abdillahi Mohamed, 36, was stabbed in the stomach and died in hospital in a fight with his brother.

The suspect was arrested following the fatal stabbing. The body of the victim was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

In Kijipwa, Kilifi County, one Safari Katana, 45, died after falling from a palm tree.

Police said the man landed on his head and died on the spot.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures following the March 6 incident.

Such incidents are common in the area.

In a different incident, the body of a man identified as Dennis Fundi, 28, who drowned in River Ruiru a week ago, was recovered and retrieved in Gatongora area, Kiambu county.

The victim is said to have drowned in the river on February 27 while on a swimming expedition.

A search was mounted lasting a week, police said. The body, which was decomposing, was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

In Oyugis, Homa Bay county, a miner was found dead in a gold mine site in Awuoro area.

The body of James Otieno, 45, was found stuck in a manhole after he had drowned.

He had gone to the tunnel to pump out water that had filled it following rains experienced.

Police suspect he died from suffocation as he was using a generator to pump out the water.

The generator emitted carbon dioxide, which killed the victim.

The body was removed to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
