
Two people have died after being struck by lightning in separate incidents in Kwale and Lamu counties.
In the first incident, a 14-year-old girl died after she was struck by lightning in a village in Taru, Kwale county, police said.
The girl was a Grade 8 pupil at Mulunguni Primary School. She was hit as she walked home from a school where she had attended a sports events on Friday evening, police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.
In Hindi, Lamu county, a fisherman died after his fishing boat caught fire in a lightning incident.
Police said two fishermen were onboard the boat when it was struck on Saturday.
Kassim Badi succumbed to the injuries after the incident in the Indian Ocean.
His colleague was injured and was rushed to the hospital.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem and other procedures.
Such incidents have been on the rise in separate places in the country amid heavy rains being experienced.
Officials have cautioned against sheltering under trees as it rains as part of efforts to address the menace.
And at least four people drowned in separate incidents reported to the police on Saturday.
The first incident happened in Ngomeni as a group of children played at the seashores of the Indian Ocean.
The body of a four-year-old boy who had drowned in the area was discovered a day later. The drowning happened on Friday in the area. The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.
In Homa Bay, a one-and-half-year-old boy drowned in a pool of rainwater at a home.
The boy was playing with his elder brother when he drowned. The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.
In Kamburu, Kiambu county, a two-and-half-year-old boy was found dead after a drowning incident.
His grandmother said she drowned in a fishpond within the compound.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.
In Tiaty, Baringo county, a 38-year-old man died after being swept by a seasonal river.
He is said to have tried to cross the river in Tangulbei when he drowned on Saturday. He was later identified as Zachariah Katikit Makuk. The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.
In Nyakinyua, Trans Nzoia county, a 13-year-old boy drowned in river Sabwani.
Police said the deceased was crossing a wooden bridge when he slid and drowned therein.
He also tried to fetch his shoes that were being swept by the raging waters when he drowned, police said.

And police in Geta, Trans Nzoia county are investigating the murder of a man at a farm. The body of Samuel Wafula, 40 was found decomposing, police said.
Police said the body had injuries in the mouth and multiple bruises when it was discovered.
