Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka / FILEThe Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has announced a major leadership shake-up that has seen several senior politicians removed from key coalition positions.
In a statement issued Monday after a joint meeting of the Coalition Council and the National Coalition Executive Council, the coalition said the affected leaders had ceased holding the positions after taking up public office or joining rival political formations.
Among those removed from the Azimio Coalition Council are Mining CS Hassan Joho, Nominated MP Sabina Chege, Abdi Noor Omar Farah, and Suna East Junet Mohamed.
Several other leaders dropped from the Azimio National Coalition Executive Council, include Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya, MPs Adan Keynan (Eldas), David Pkosing (Pokot South), Mishi Mboko (Likoni), and Abdul Haji, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi; Isabella Wangechi Githinji; Caroline Wanjiru Karugu; and Solomon Kuria.
The coalition said replacements for the affected leaders will be announced later as part of an expanded coalition structure.
The meeting also resolved to terminate the appointment of Junet Mohamed as the leader of the Azimio Coalition Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly.
In his place, the coalition appointed Caroli Omondi to take over the role with immediate effect.
The announcement was made by Kalonzo Musyoka, who serves as the party leader of the coalition.
Kalonzo said the changes were necessary following recent political developments, including appointments to government positions and alignment with competing political coalitions.
On February 3, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party unveiled a major reorganisation of its top leadership in a move aimed at revitalising the coalition and sharpening its political strategy ahead of the next phase of national engagement.
Under the chairmanship of retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, a joint session of the Azimio Council and the National Executive Committee was held on Monday, February 2, 2026, during which key leadership appointments were unanimously approved.
In the changes, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo was appointed Party Leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, cementing his role as a central figure in steering the coalition’s political direction.
Suba MP Caroli Omondi was named Secretary General, while former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia was appointed Executive Director.
The coalition said the appointments were necessitated by “evolving political circumstances” that demanded prompt and strategic leadership adjustments to strengthen internal coordination and effectiveness.
“These changes are part of a deliberate effort to reposition and revitalise the coalition,” Azimio said in a statement following the meeting.
“The goal is to foster greater cohesion, effectiveness and unity as the coalition advances its agenda for the nation.”
The meeting, chaired by Kenyatta in his capacity as chairman of the Azimio Council, brought together senior coalition leaders who reviewed the party’s organisational structure, political environment and long-term strategy.
