Deputy President Kithure Kindiki conducts sensitisation programme in Meru on March 8, 2026 / DPCS


Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Sunday interacted with residents of Makutano in Meru Town as he toured ongoing and planned development projects aimed at uplifting the town as it seeks city status.

Speaking in North Imenti Constituency, Kindiki said several key projects are underway to transform Meru’s infrastructure and public services.

Among them is the upgrade of Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital from a Level 5 to a Level 6 facility at a cost of Sh1 billion, a move expected to expand specialised healthcare services in the region.

The government is also rebuilding the main fresh produce market at Gakoromone Market, another Sh1 billion project aimed at improving trading conditions for farmers and traders.
In addition, the construction of 17 kilometres of new link roads within the town, costing Sh3.7 billion, is set to begin soon to improve connectivity and support the town’s growth ambitions.

During his stopover at Makutano, Kindiki paused to acknowledge greetings from residents who had gathered along the road.

He urged the community to maintain peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, noting that political differences should not divide residents.

“Respect one another regardless of differences in political opinions,” he said.
