Heavy rains that pounded Nairobi on Friday night have left a trail of destruction in the Grogan area, with reports of loss of life, damaged property, and businesses disrupted following the heavy downpour.

In images and a video seen by the Star, floodwaters swept through parts of the area, leaving muddy streets, scattered debris, and damaged vehicles in their wake.

The aftermath of the rainfall has raised concern among residents and traders who operate in the busy commercial zone.

In the video, a crowd of people had gathered around the body of an unidentified male believed to have been swept away by the raging floodwaters during the heavy rains on the night of March 6, 2026.

The victim's body was lying in a muddy section of the area as onlookers stood nearby, some appearing shocked by the tragic scene.

The incident occurred within the Grogan area, where the heavy downpour caused water to accumulate and flow through streets and open spaces.

Several residents and traders were seen milling around the scene as they tried to understand what had happened.

In the footage, people were seen carefully walking through muddy water while others stood around observing the scene.

The videos also showed the extent of destruction left behind by the floods, with several people feared dead.

Debris could also be seen scattered across the area, while some businesses appeared to have been damaged by the water.

Several vehicles parked nearby also appeared to have been damaged, highlighting the force of the floodwaters that swept through the location.

Some of the cars visible in the footage showed signs of impact, while others appeared to have been displaced from their original parking positions.

Traders in the area are feared to have suffered losses as floodwaters reportedly entered shops and stalls.

Despite the shocking scene, members of the public continued to gather at the location, with many attempting to catch a glimpse of the aftermath. 

The heavy rainfall in Nairobi is part of ongoing downpours that have affected several parts of the city in recent days. Flooding has been reported in multiple areas, causing loss of lives, disrupting transport, damaging property and posing risks to residents.

Authorities have repeatedly urged the public to exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall and to avoid walking or driving through flooded areas.

Residents living in flood-prone areas have also been advised to remain vigilant and report emergencies to relevant authorities as efforts continue to respond to incidents linked to the ongoing rains.
