Residents of Kibiku in Kiambu County were shocked after the decomposed body of a middle-aged woman was discovered in a house belonging to a suspect who had been arrested for jumping bail.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday morning over a matter pending in court. He asked his cousin to visit his house to fetch documents related to the case.
According to police, the cousin was alarmed by a foul smell coming from the bedroom. On checking, he found a naked, decomposed body of a woman lying on the bed.
Police said the body had visible bruises and wounds on the face and upper limbs, with blood oozing from the mouth, nostrils, and private parts, suggesting she may have been severely beaten before being left in the house.
The state of decomposition indicated the woman had been dead for more than two days. The suspect, already in custody, will be charged with murder.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and identification, police said on Thursday.
The motive of the killing was not immediately known, but investigations are ongoing. A crowd gathered at the scene as the body was removed.
In a separate incident in Juja, Kiambu County, Samson Musyimi, a lecturer at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) medical department, was found dead in his home.
A friend, who had not seen him for several days, went to check on him after he failed to respond to calls and messages. Police forced open the locked door and found Musyimi lying dead on his bed with no visible injuries.
Police confirmed that Musyimi had been diagnosed with liver problems last year. Several medicines, including those for hypertension and diabetes, were recovered from his house. His body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
Authorities said investigations into both cases are ongoing.
