Mourners gathered in their thousands on Friday at Mogondo in Narok County. They came to bid farewell to the late Emurua Dikirr MP, Johana Ng’eno.
The atmosphere was heavy with grief. However, it was a moment of profound strength from his widow, Naiyanoi Ntutu, that moved the congregation.
Standing at the podium, Naiyanoi delivered a tribute to the man she described as her husband, friend, and comfort. Her words were not just a farewell to a spouse. They were a public vow of loyalty to his family and the people he served.

The Biblical Promise
Naiyanoi turned to the Bible to express her commitment. She chose a famous passage from the Book of Ruth. The verse, Ruth 1:16, is often used to signify unbreakable bonds.
"Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God."
By quoting this, she signalled her intention to remain deeply rooted in her husband's family and community. She told the mourners that his love would live on within them forever.
A Daughter’s Promise
The most emotional part of the tribute was directed at her mother-in-law, Mary. In many cultures, the relationship between a widow and her husband's parents can become uncertain after a death.
Naiyanoi sought to remove any such doubt.

She spoke directly to Mary, promising to care for her. She stated that she would continue to respect and look after her as if she were her own mother.
“To my mother-in-law, Mary, know that I will remain to love and respect you as my own mother,” she said.
Legacy for the Children
Naiyanoi also addressed her children, Cheruto and Chesang. She reminded them of their father’s deep love. She assured them that his memory would live on through them.
"Your father loved you very much, and his memories will continue to live in you."
Beyond her immediate family, she reached out to the people of Emurua Dikirr. She thanked them for their love and support. She promised to stay close to the constituents and help them whenever possible.

Background on a Vocal Leader
Johana Ng’eno was a prominent and often outspoken figure in Kenyan politics. He was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr in 2013. He was known for his firm stances on land issues and his passionate representation of the Kipsigis community.
His sudden passing has left a significant gap in the political landscape of Narok County. He was serving his third term in Parliament at the time of his death.
The burial service was attended by various political leaders, including the President, who were there to pay their respects.
