Police in Machakos County are investigating the death of a man whose body was found lying at Kathemboni in the Kiima Kimwe location early Thursday morning.
Officers from Machakos Police Station responded after being alerted by a local administrator who reported seeing a body lying behind shops at Kathemboni shopping centre.
Police said they found the body lying on the ground with the victim’s legs crossed and all his clothes intact. Preliminary investigations suggest the death could be a possible murder, although detectives are still working to establish the exact cause of death.
The scene was processed before the body was moved to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy and identification.
Residents gathered at the scene as police carried out investigations and removed the body.
In a separate incident in Kitengela, Kajiado County, a man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed a woman under unclear circumstances on Wednesday evening.
Police said the suspect was rescued from an angry crowd that was baying for his blood after the alleged attack outside Eastmatt Supermarket within Kitengela Township at around 4pm.
The woman is currently fighting for her life in a local hospital after sustaining stab injuries allegedly inflicted using a knife.
Witnesses said the incident attracted a large crowd that pursued the suspect, subjecting him to mob justice before he was rescued. A local activist and the victim’s mother were among those who intervened and pleaded with the mob to spare the suspect’s life and allow police to handle the case.
The incident came barely a day after a 30-year-old man drowned while swimming in a weir in Kibwezi, Makueni County. Police said the man drowned while swimming with friends, according to his father, Joseph Kavutha.
In Matungulu, Machakos County, police also removed the body of a middle-aged man found lying along the Kangundo-Nairobi Road near KBC Police Station in Malaa area. Authorities said investigations into the cause of death are ongoing.
