Speaking when he joined the Parliamentary Service Commission and Members of the National Assembly in condoling with the family of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno, Wetang’ula said the prevailing adverse weather conditions require greater vigilance, particularly in air transport operations.

Ngeno was among the six on board a chopper that crashed at Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, on February 28, 2026.

He urged relevant authorities to tighten enforcement of air service regulations, strengthen safety compliance audits, and ensure that aviation operators strictly adhere to meteorological minimums and flight safety protocols.

“I urged caution amid adverse weather conditions, called for stricter air service regulations, and assured the family of Parliament’s full support in according Ngeno a befitting send-off,” Wetang’ula said.

The Speaker underscored that unpredictable weather patterns significantly elevate operational risk, and regulatory bodies must act decisively to prevent avoidable tragedies.

Wetang’ula noted that while the nation mourns its leaders and citizens, the moment also calls for sober reflection and concrete action to enhance aviation safety standards.

He assured the bereaved families of Parliament’s full support and reiterated that the House would honour the late Ngéno appropriately, even as leaders push for stronger safeguards within the aviation sector.

Wetang’ula paid tribute to the late Ngeno as a disciplined and diligent legislator who was never reprimanded for disorderly conduct throughout his tenure in the National Assembly.

He noted that Ngeno chaired the Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works Committee, which was instrumental in the passage of the Affordable Housing Act of 2024.

The Speaker informed Members that a special motion would be moved in the House to celebrate the Legislator’s life and service.

He further announced that Wednesday morning’s sitting would be suspended to allow legislators to attend a memorial service for the four crash victims at AGC, Karen.

Wetang’ula assured the bereaved family, led by his spouse Nayianoi Ntutu, of Parliament’s full support in accord with Ngeno a befitting send-off.

He prayed that the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace and that God grant comfort to the grieving families.

MP Ngeno will be laid to rest on Friday, March 6, at his Emurua Dikirr home, following consultations between family members and leaders, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu announced.

Governor Ntutu said leaders from the region have held several meetings, including with a parliamentary committee, to plan the burial programme for the six individuals who perished in a recent helicopter crash.

“We have held meetings and discussed the burial programme. We met yesterday and this morning with members of the parliament committee to oversee and plan the burial of our MP. We all agreed that the burial date would not be mentioned until all the family members agreed. The family has settled on Friday to bury MP Ngeno,” he said.

According to the governor, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday at the Baptist Church in honour of the six victims.

On Thursday, the bodies of Ngeno and Rono will be transported to their respective homes for a night vigil in keeping with family traditions, as both were married and had families.

The other three bodies, described as young men, will be brought on Friday ahead of the burial service.

A joint burial service for all six will be conducted at Emurua Dikirr Primary School before the bodies are taken to their homes for interment.
