The Nairobi Rivers Commission (NRC) is seeking 20 energetic and self-motivated Kenyans to join its River Regeneration Project as Clerks of Works interns.

The five-month internship program, running until June 30 2026, offers an opportunity for young professionals to gain hands-on experience in environmental restoration and infrastructure management.

The NRC, established under Kenya Gazette Notice No. 13907, coordinates the restoration and beautification of the Nairobi Rivers Basin.

“The NRC is pleased to recruit interns under FY 2025/2026, energetic and self-motivated Kenyans for 20 internship positions under the River Regeneration Project,” the poster read.

Interns will assist in daily site supervision, monitor river regeneration activities, document environmental and safety compliance, and track project progress through site inspections.

Eligible candidates must be Kenyan citizens who graduated in 2019 or later, holding a degree or diploma in fields such as civil engineering, building construction/management, environmental studies, ICT, accounts and finance, or related disciplines.

Proficiency in computer applications, strong communication and teamwork skills, and the ability to work in field conditions are required.

Applicants residing within the Nairobi River Corridors will have an added advantage.

Interested candidates can apply by emailing [email protected] and completing the online form available at https://forms.gie/gChoQ7NmQ3a5bttP7.

Applications close on March 24, 2026.

The internship offers a stipend in line with government and Public Service Commission guidelines and provides young professionals with a unique opportunity to contribute to one of Nairobi’s flagship environmental initiatives.

NRC is mandated to restore and enhance Nairobi’s river systems, aiming to transform the city’s waterways into hubs of environmental sustainability and socio-economic development.

The mandate, outlined in Kenya Gazette Notice No. 13907, emphasises reclaiming the rivers as a spine of the city’s blue and green infrastructure to improve urban living standards.

The NRC is tasked with coordinating all stakeholders involved in the rehabilitation, protection, restoration, beautification, and sustainable development of Nairobi’s riverine basin.

The goal is to transform the rivers into an economic and retail frontier of the city while monitoring compliance with environmental laws and proposing necessary regulatory reforms.

The Commission is also responsible for developing codes of conduct, mobilising resources, and establishing a Trust Fund or other instruments to support strategic partnerships and secure financing for river regeneration projects.

The Commission’s mandate underscores a holistic approach to urban river management, blending environmental restoration with socio-economic development, governance, and community engagement, aiming to position Nairobi’s rivers as a sustainable asset for the city and its residents.
