
A 25-year-old man was killed in a fire incident in a village in Limuru, Kiambu County.
Police said the fire broke out in a semi-permanent house occupied by John Muigai in the Mabrouk area on March 1, 2026.
The cause of the fire was not immediately established, but locals said they suspected it may have been sparked by a leaking gas cylinder.
Residents responded quickly and managed to contain the blaze before discovering Muigai’s body inside the house. Police visited the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending further procedures.
In Githurai Mwiki, a 105-year-old woman was found dead in her bed.
Family members said Waruguru Karinga died peacefully in her house on Sunday morning. Her body was moved to the mortuary for burial arrangements.
In Makuyu, Murang’a County, the body of an unidentified woman was found hanging from a tree with a headscarf tied around her neck.
Police said it is not yet clear what led to her death. The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and a post-mortem examination.
In another incident in Limuru, a 12-year-old girl discovered her mother dead following a suspected suicide.
Police said the woman had arrived home late appearing intoxicated and asked her daughter for a pen and paper. She wrote down the mobile numbers of her sister and husband, stating that she loved them.
She then went to her bedroom, leaving the child in the sitting room. According to police, she hanged herself using a rope tied to the roof truss.
The girl reportedly cut the rope with a kitchen knife in an attempt to save her mother, but it was too late.
Police said the incident occurred at dawn on March 1, and investigations into the motive are ongoing.
The body was moved to the mortuary. Authorities noted that suicide cases have been on the rise, prompting calls for greater intervention and support.
Elsewhere in Nyamusi, Nyamira County, officials exhumed the body of a man that had been buried in a shallow grave within a compound.
The compound was unoccupied at the time of the burial and discovery. The body is believed to have been buried last year.
The site was discovered by workers who were constructing a house nearby. The remains were exhumed and moved to the mortuary for identification and a possible post-mortem
