President William Ruto has assured residents of Emurua Dikirr Constituency that they will not be abandoned following the death of their Member of Parliament, Johana Ngeno.
Ruto said the loss of Ngeno was not only felt by the family but also by the entire nation.
“I am sharing this moment with you. It is a difficult moment for the family and for his friends, but I want to assure you that God is in control,” Ruto said.
He added: “Nothing happens that takes God by surprise. So we will be here. God will lead us into doing the right things.”
The Head of State made the remarks when he visited Ngeno’s Nairobi home to condole with the family. He was accompanied by several leaders and Members of Parliament who joined the bereaved family in mourning the late legislator.
The President described Ngeno as a dedicated leader whose development agenda for Emurua Dikirr would not stall despite his untimely death. He revealed that he had built a close relationship with the MP’s family over time.
“Family, his wife, is somebody I’ve come to know. I’ve been to her home in Emurua Dikirr and I know she’s explained to me what needs to be done, and it will be done so that we can carry on the legacy of our brother Ngeno and that of the family,” he said.
Ruto sent a direct message to the people of the constituency, promising continuity of projects initiated by their late MP.
“And to the people of Emurua Dikirr, I want to tell them that they will not be orphaned. We will be there; they can count on us. All that he wanted done will be done. The priority projects he wanted will be done, and we will carry through this difficult moment together,” he stated.
The President also thanked lawmakers for standing in solidarity with their departed colleague during the mourning period.
“I want to thank all Members of Parliament for the solidarity you have shown with your colleague and our brother. I think this is the spirit as we go through the final motions to his resting place,” he said.
Leaders present described Ngeno as a vocal and passionate representative who championed the interests of his constituents. They called for unity and calm as the family prepares for his final send-off.
As burial arrangements continue, residents of Emurua Dikirr and leaders across the political divide have continued to stream to the family home to offer condolences and pay tribute to a leader many described as dedicated, accessible, and firm in defending the interests of his people.
