The late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno/FILEThe late Emurua Dikirr MP Ngeno will be laid to rest on Friday, March 6, at his Emurua Dikirr home, following consultations between family members and leaders, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu has announced.
Governor Ntutu said leaders from the region have held several meetings, including with a parliamentary committee, to plan the burial programme for the six individuals who perished in a recent helicopter crash.
“We have held meetings and discussed the burial programme. We met yesterday and this morning with members of the parliament committee to oversee and plan the burial of our MP. We all agreed that the burial date would not be mentioned until all the family members agreed. The family has settled on Friday to bury MP Ngeno,” he said.
According to the governor, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday at the Baptist Church in honour of the six victims.
On Thursday, the bodies of Ngeno and Rono will be transported to their respective homes for a night vigil in keeping with family traditions, as both were married and had families.
The other three bodies, described as young men, will be brought on Friday ahead of the burial service.
A joint burial service for all six will be conducted at Emurua Dikirr Primary School before the bodies are taken to their homes for interment.
Governor Ntutu called on Kenyans from across the country to attend the burial and stand in solidarity with the bereaved families.
"We call on Kenyans from across the country to come and condole with us on Friday. We assure you the people of Emurua Dikirr are peaceful and welcoming,” he said.
At the same time, he said local leaders and residents are seeking a thorough investigation into the helicopter crash to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
He urged leaders to refrain from politicising the deaths, noting that the affected families are still grieving.
“I ask our leaders not to politicise the death of those who have left us. We have seen some leaders coming out to say what had happened, yet the families of those fallen are still mourning the loss of their sons,” he added.
President William Ruto on Monday visited Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno’s Karen home to console the family.
Ngeno was among the six on board a chopper that crashed at Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, on February 28, 2026.
President Ruto arrived at Ngeno’s home accompanied by other leaders.
He was seen signing the condolence book.
Ngeno, born in 1972, was serving his third consecutive term in Parliament, having first been elected in 2013.
He had served as chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning, and Public Works and was also a member of the Liaison Committee. In the 12th Parliament, he served on the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.
