Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen

A group of professionals from the North Rift region has called on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to refrain from commenting on matters under the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s docket.

Led by Kimaiya Minanyang and Alex Chebos, the professionals expressed concern over Gachagua’s public remarks on the helicopter crash that killed Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno and five others.

They questioned the timing and nature of Gachagua’s statements, noting that the MP’s family had not yet been formally informed when the announcement was made at a public rally.

Addressing the press Sunday in Marakwet, Minanyang said, “It is unusual for a leader of Gachagua’s standing to make such announcements before the immediate family has been notified. We believe matters of public safety and tragedy should be handled with care and respect.”

The professionals also defended Murkomen’s performance in the Interior docket, highlighting improvements in security across the country.

Chebos said, “Since Murkomen took over, incidents of banditry, cattle rustling in the Kerio Valley, and terrorist threats have reduced. The country has seen tangible progress.”

Minanyang added that allegations regarding Murkomen’s involvement in the chopper incident were misplaced.

“We cannot attribute natural events, such as weather conditions affecting flights, to the work of the Interior CS. His focus has been on stabilising the country,” he said.

The group also questioned Gachagua’s broader political messaging, urging leaders to prioritise unity and constructive engagement.

“Political debates should focus on solutions rather than creating division,” Minanyang said.

The professionals concluded by expressing support for Murkomen’s continued leadership at the Interior docket.

"He is committed to public service and maintaining law and order. We encourage all leaders to respect his office and the work being done,” Chebos said.
