Kenya Railways has announced a temporary traffic disruption along Moi Avenue in Mombasa to allow emergency repairs on the Mbaraki Rail Over Road Bridge.
The closure will affect the stretch between the Moi Avenue-Tangana Road and Moi Avenue-Mogadishu Road roundabouts.
The works are scheduled for Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 6:00 am. to 10:00 am.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead and use alternative routes to avoid delays.
Kenya Railways has outlined specific detours for motorists accessing and exiting the KPA Gate 10 and Docks area. Those leaving the docks are advised to take Mogadishu Road, Zanzibar Road, and Shimanzi Road.
For vehicles heading to the docks, the recommended route is Tangana Road, Mijikenda Street, Lumumba Road, and Shimanzi Road.
Motorists are urged to observe the traffic management arrangements and comply with instructions from police officers and traffic marshals on site.
Kenya Railways expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their cooperation. "These essential works are undertaken to ensure the safety and reliability of railway infrastructure," the notice said.
The Managing Director of Kenya Railways emphasised that the repair works are critical to maintain the structural integrity of the Mbaraki Rail Over Road Bridge.
Residents and commuters are encouraged to allow extra travel time on the affected routes and to follow the guidance of on-site authorities to minimise disruptions.
The closure highlights ongoing maintenance efforts by Kenya Railways to secure key infrastructure along major transport corridors.
The authority reiterated its commitment to public safety while ensuring that the railway network remains operational and reliable for both freight and passenger services.
Motorists are advised to stay informed, follow alternative routes, and comply with traffic guidance during the repair period to avoid delays along Moi Avenue.
This temporary disruption is part of Kenya Railways’ wider effort to enhance the safety and efficiency of its transport infrastructure across the country.
