
A man with mental illness stabbed three people, including a local chief, in Muharia village, Sabatia subcounty, Vihiga county.
The man, estimate to be about 45 years old, was apprehended after the attack.
According to acting North Maragoli chief Kenneth Ndagala, the accused Boge Odera attacked Kigama sublocation assistant chief Maurice Mbarani with a knife, stabbing him on the hands and face.
Ndagala said that the attack left Mbarani with serious cuts but he was rushed to Jumuia Hospital, Kaimosi, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Ndagala added that the suspect attacked his two neighbours, senselessly beating one and stabbing the other, who was taken to Vihiga County Referral Hospital for treatment.
“The Assistant Chief, Maurice Mbarani, lost a lot of blood after he was stabbed, upon which when taken to the hospital had to undergo an operation and a blood transfusion in order for his life to be saved,” said Ndagala said.
He confirmed that the accused had been apprehended and taken to Mudete police station in Sabatia.
The incident left area residents in disbelief.
