The board is currently undergoing induction, officially opened by Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea, in Kisumu.

Kapkea said the process marks a milestone in strengthening governance, emphasising the board’s role in providing strategic direction, promoting accountability and ensuring efficient service delivery as Eldoret continues its transition to city status.
Governor Jonathan Bii urged the board to take immediate action to restore cleanliness, address operational challenges and support his vision of modernising Eldoret to attract investors.
The board will elect a chairperson during its first meeting.
Bii also used the swearing-in to outline his political ambitions, signalling his readiness to seek a second term in next year’s elections. He warned staff aligned with opposition efforts that any sabotage would not be tolerated.
“The county is progressing, and my achievements are visible. Those opposing me should use their resources wisely rather than engaging in an impossible campaign,” he said.
The new Eldoret City Board faces the dual challenge of consolidating city operations while supporting broader governance and modernisation efforts, a key test of leadership as the city continues its growth trajectory.
