The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has secured two life imprisonment sentences in separate sexual offence cases involving minors, following convictions delivered at the Makindu Law Courts.

According to the DPP, the sentences were handed down on February 19, 2026, by the trial magistrate, after the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The convicts were facing charges under the Sexual Offences Act.

In the first case, the DPP said the accused was convicted of defilement contrary to Section 8(1) as read with Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offences Act.

The prosecution told the court that the offence involved a 10-year-old child and was uncovered through a school-based initiative where learners were encouraged to anonymously share challenges affecting them.

“The victim’s disclosure triggered investigations that culminated in his arrest and arraignment,” the prosecution said.

The DPP stated that during the trial, prosecutors presented evidence, including the victim’s testimony and corroborative material that placed the accused at the centre of the offence.

The court, according to the DPP, found the prosecution’s evidence sufficient, ultimately leading to his conviction.

“The court found the evidence consistent and credible, leading to his conviction and the mandatory life sentence provided under the law for defilement of a child aged 11 years and below,” the ODPP stated.

In the second matter, the DPP said the accused was convicted of incest contrary to Section 20(1) of the Sexual Offences Act.

The prosecution informed the court that the victim was a seven-year-old relative of the accused.

Although he denied the charges and claimed he had been falsely implicated, the DPP maintained that the defence was effectively rebutted through medical evidence and witness testimony.

According to the DPP, the court found that all the essential elements of the offence of incest had been fully established.

The magistrate consequently sentenced him to life imprisonment, as required by law, where the victim of incest is a minor.

“The court heard that the victim, a 7-year-old relative, was subjected to sexual abuse by the accused,” reads the ODPP statement.

The Prosecution emphasised that the convictions and sentences underscore their reaffirmation to protecting children and holding perpetrators of sexual violence fully accountable.

The Office noted that the successful prosecution was the result of thorough investigations, careful presentation of evidence, and close coordination between investigators, prosecutors, and witnesses.

The DPP reiterated its resolve to continue pursuing firm sentences in cases involving sexual offences against minors, noting that such prosecutions are critical in safeguarding vulnerable members of society and upholding the rule of law.
