The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested a serving Member of County Assembly and two former senior officials of the County Government of Garissa over alleged fraudulent payments amounting to Sh51.4 million.

The suspects are expected in court on Monday to face charges, officials said.

Those arrested include an MCA, a former Director and a former Economist.

The trio was arrested on February 22, 2026, following investigations into suspected irregular payments amounting to Sh51.4 million from the county government.

They were scheduled to be arraigned before the Garissa Law Courts for plea taking on Monday.

The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the anti-graft agency to clamp down on corruption and misuse of public funds within county governments.

EACC has been staging operations in various places in an effort to address the rising rate of corruption.

The graft is happening both in national and county government levels, investigations show. Insiders say the teams have dozens of cases that are pending under probe for now.
