One of the damaged vehicles at the church service in Sigor, Bomet County, on February 22, 2026./HANDOUTBomet Senator Hillary Sigei has condemned what he described as a violent and politically motivated incident after he and his team were attacked during a church service in Sigor Ward, Chepalungu Sub-county.
In a statement, the senator said the incident occurred at around 2:20pm on Sunday while he was attending a service at Kabolwo Deliverance Church.
He alleged that a group of individuals stormed the area shortly after his arrival, disrupting the event and targeting his entourage.
According to Sigei, stones were hurled at his team, vehicles were damaged, and several people were injured, turning what was meant to be a peaceful church visit into a chaotic scene.
“These individuals didn’t just disrupt the service; they smashed vehicles and injured innocent members of my team,” the senator said, terming the incident “pure thuggery.”
Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei speaks to the media after the chaos at the Sigori Church Service on February 22, 2026./HANDOUTThe senator linked the incident to his ongoing oversight activities across Bomet County.
He said the visit to Sigor Ward was part of a planned tour to assess the status of some development projects, which he claims are not operational.
“This attack is directly connected to my oversight role on projects. It is an attempt to intimidate and silence efforts to demand accountability and ensure development is reflected on the ground,” he said.
He criticised the disruption of a church setting, saying places of worship should remain neutral and peaceful spaces.
The senator urged residents of Bomet to remain calm and vigilant, warning against attempts to incite division or violence.
“I want to assure the people of Bomet that I will not be intimidated or deterred from my constitutional oversight duties. We will not allow a few individuals to derail the accountability and service delivery that residents deserve,” he said.
Sigei reaffirmed his commitment to continue inspecting development projects across the county and vowed to pursue the matter through legal channels.
Police had not issued an official statement on the incident by the time of publication, but investigations are reported to be underway.
