National EA FC champion Harry Kappa has secured a historic move to Morocco after signing a professional contract with Renaissance Club Athletic Zemamra — becoming the first Kenyan esports player to land a professional deal abroad.
The 20-year-old joins Morocco’s eBotola League, Africa’s only fully professional esports competition, in a breakthrough that signals Kenya’s growing presence on the continental gaming stage.
“This opportunity has changed how I see myself as a player. It shows me that I belong at this level and now I have to prove it every day,” Kappa said. “Before, I was chasing opportunities. Now I have one, and my responsibility is to maximise it.”
Kappa earned national acclaim after beating defending champion Eric “Demon” Ngige 3–1 to win the Nairobi eLIGUE1 Tour qualifiers before clinching the national EA FC title. He then impressed at the SportsBiz Africa Esports Cup in Kigali, reaching the semi-finals and finishing fourth against some of Africa’s top-ranked players.
He has also represented Kenya in tournaments in Saudi Arabia and South Africa, steadily building his international profile.
Now, his focus shifts to securing a top-two finish in Morocco to qualify for the Esports World Cup set for July 2026 in Riyadh.
“My main target is to compete strongly in the league and qualify for the Esports World Cup. That would be huge for me and for Kenyan esports,” he said.
Esports Kenya Federation president Ronny Lusigi backed Kappa to thrive at the next level.
“His performances locally and internationally show he has the quality to compete at the highest level. This move reflects his hard work and the structures we are building as a federation,” Lusigi said.
Kappa leaves for Casablanca on February 20 ahead of the eBotola season, which runs from February 26 to April 25 — a defining chapter in Kenyan esports history.
