Newly elected LSK President Charles Kanjama /LEAH MUKANGAIPolitical leaders and public figures have congratulated Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama following his election as the 52nd President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
The leaders praised his experience, reform agenda, and the role of the legal profession in safeguarding constitutionalism.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka described Kanjama’s victory as a well-earned mandate rooted in years of principled service and commitment to the rule of law.
In a detailed congratulatory message, Kalonzo said Kanjama’s RIPE agenda resonates with Kenya’s current constitutional moment.
"Your RIPE agenda, Rule of Law, Integrity, Practice and Welfare and Engagement, speaks to the moment our nation finds itself in," he said.
Kalonzo highlighted pledges to publish an annual Rule of Law Report, complete the Wakili Towers project transparently, establish a training institute, and strengthen welfare and mentorship for young advocates as indicators of practical, values-driven leadership.
“A strong bar is the guardian of a strong constitution,” Kalonzo said, expressing confidence that Kanjama would steer the society firmly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
Kalonzo also praised outgoing LSK president Faith Odhiambo for what he termed courageous stewardship, particularly her defence of constitutional rights and insistence on accountability during the 2024 Gen Z protests.
He said she leaves the office with honour, having restored the moral authority of the LSK presidency.
He further acknowledged the Young Bar for remaining vigilant in the defence of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also congratulated Kanjama on his win, extending his message to all successful candidates and contestants.
Murkomen said participation in the elections strengthened the society, describing LSK as a key partner in advancing the rule of law, accountability and public order.
"Wishing the very best also to the outgoing council members, led by Faith Odhiambo, who have done a commendable job," the CS said.
He said the government would continue collaborating closely with society to build a more robust criminal justice system, which he noted is critical for democratic advancement and national stability.
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya joined other leaders in congratulating Kanjama, urging him to remain firm in office.
Salasya specifically referenced Odhiambo’s tenure, saying her resolve during moments when Kenyans were “at their lowest” set a standard of courage and independence that should be upheld.
"Congratulations to Charles Njiru kanjama for LSK president my kind request be firm like Faith Odhiambo," the legislator said.
Kanjama’s election places him at the helm of the society for the 2026–2028 term.
He has pledged to work with both supporters and rivals after emerging victorious.
As Kanjama prepares to assume office, leaders have expressed optimism that his presidency will strengthen the bar’s voice, enhance institutional reforms, and reinforce the rule of law during a politically sensitive period for the country.
