Nondies prop Boniface Amimo barges past Nakuru RFC Derrick Sore and Victor Matiko during a recent Kenya Cup clash/HANDOUTNondies Rugby Club is hoping their 27-17 Enterprise Cup victory over Strathmore Leos will provide the momentum needed for a strong finish in the Kenya Cup this season.
The club, Kenya’s most decorated rugby outfit, has endured an inconsistent campaign, currently sitting sixth on the league table with two wins.
Coach Moses Wanyaga believes the recent triumph can galvanise the squad as they approach the business end of the season.
“It’s been an up-and-down season so far, but the win against Strathmore in the Cup has given the squad belief that we can move up the table and be in the Kenya Cup playoffs this season,” he said.
Wanyaga stressed that clarity in set-pieces and game management will be critical in securing results.
“Our scrum and lineout will have to be better — we need to secure our own ball, look at pinching the opposition’s, and play in areas where we can maximise our strengths to score points and tries,” he explained.
The Nondies face a testing run of fixtures, starting with Menengai Oilers on Saturday, before clashes with league leaders and defending champions Kabras, Daystar Falcons, and their final regular-season match against Impala, alongside a rescheduled game versus MMUST.
“This season, the Kenya Cup has been competitive. The five matches we have coming up will test us. Impala and Daystar are fighting for survival, while Oilers and Kabras are championship contenders, so we are more than ready to face them,” Wanyaga noted.
The coach believes the team can leverage experience from the past two seasons, where they reached the semifinals before losing to eventual winners Kabras.
“The players are battle-tested and have the experience and knowledge of getting to the playoffs,” he added.
With three playoff positions still up for grabs, the race intensifies as Blak Blad currently sits fourth on 19 points, with Strathmore Leos fifth on 16 points.
Every game in the remaining schedule is crucial, and the Nondies will need to combine discipline, tactical acumen, and composure to navigate this critical phase.
As the squad sets sights on climbing the table, their Enterprise Cup victory serves as both a confidence boost and a reminder that the playoffs remain within reach — provided they maintain consistency and execute on set-pieces and game management in the weeks ahead.
