Triple Olympic 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon is set to return to the “magic track” at the Monaco Diamond League on July 10, aiming to extend her legacy over 3,000m.

Monaco is where she made history in 2023, obliterating the women’s Mile world record with a stunning 4:07.64, well ahead of Ireland’s Ciara Mageean (4:14.58) and Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu (4:14.79).
Last year, Kipyegon came within striking distance of the 3,000m world record of 8:06.11, set by China’s Wang Junxia in 1993, posting 8:07.04 at the Silesia Diamond League, making her the second fastest woman in history over the distance.
She dominated the race, finishing well ahead of Ethiopia’s Likina Amebaw (8:34.53) and Aleshign Baweke (8:35.51).
The 32-year-old Kenyan has been on a record-breaking spree, including a 3:49.11 world record over 1,500m at the Rome Golden Gala and a 14:05.20 over 5,000m at the Paris Diamond League in 2023.

Her 2025 season included another historic milestone at the Prefontaine Classic, where she became the first woman to run under 3:49 in the 1,500m, and a fourth world title at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Monaco holds a special place in Kipyegon’s journey. Last Sunday, she made her road running debut at the Monaco Run 10K, finishing in 29:46, signalling the start of her broader road ambitions, including future marathon plans.
Reflecting on her return, Kipyegon said: “I just enjoy coming to Monaco. It is a very special place where I usually enjoy running track and now on the road… It’s a matter of learning to know how the road works. I normally talk about doing a  marathon in the future, so this is the start.”
With her remarkable consistency and dominance across multiple distances, Monaco once again presents an opportunity for Kipyegon to rewrite history and chase the elusive 3,000m world record.
Fans will be watching closely as she looks to continue her unparalleled streak of performances on one of the sport’s fastest tracks.
