Kenya Prisons head coach Denis Mokua has thrown down the gauntlet to his charges to turn their flawless start into a sustained title assault as the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Men’s National League gathers pace.

The warders have stormed to the summit with four wins from four matches, collecting a maximum 12 points and dropping just a single set in the opening phase of the 2025/2026 campaign.

Their commanding start has marked them out as early favourites in a tightly contested field. Former champions Prisons have set the benchmark with a 100 per cent record, sitting ahead of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), who are second on 10 points from three wins in four matches.

Unbeaten Chema Volleyball Club occupy third place with nine points from three outings. Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) and Kenya Defence Forces are locked in a mid-table battle on eight points apiece, while Equity Bank sit sixth with six points.

Lower down the standings, Prisons Rift Valley, Kenya Army and Prisons Western are fighting to climb the table, with Kenya Forest Service having stepped out of the league due to logistical challenges.

Prisons’ authority has been evident in straight-sets wins over Prisons Rift Valley (25–18, 25–15, 25–20), Eldowas (25–16, 25–21, 25–19) and Prisons Nairobi (25–15, 25–20, 25–16), as well as a hard-fought 3–1 victory against Equity (25–20, 22–25, 23–25, 24–26).

The results underline a side operating with discipline, balance and consistency across departments. Attention now turns to the next league leg, where Prisons face newcomers Chema in a clash expected to test their unbeaten streak as the race for favourable playoff seeding begins to take shape.

Mokua believes the blistering start is no accident but the product of deliberate off-season corrections. “We have sharpened our claws in every department, and we are ready to take on the challenge,” said Mokua.

He noted that the technical bench focused on addressing weaknesses to ensure the squad hit the ground running.
