In the midst of a bruising political storm, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna found a moment of levity and unexpected support within the four walls of his office.
On Friday, 13 February 2026, the embattled politician hosted two popular TikTok personalities who surprised him with a custom-made T-shirt.
The white garment bore the bold inscription “Mimi ndio Sifuna”—a phrase that has rapidly transformed from a simple slogan into a viral anthem for his supporters.
The visit provided a sharp contrast to the high-stakes drama Sifuna has faced in recent days. Photos shared on his official social media accounts showed a visibly elated Senator laughing and engaging in animated conversation with the content creators.

The back of the gifted shirt featured the Kenyan flag and coat of arms, effectively merging Gen Z digital culture with national political symbolism.
“Ma baddies wa pale TikTok wameamua kuni kit for Sunday. Thanks for the love and support, bwana. God bless,” Sifuna captioned the post.
The Ouster and the Aftermath
This lighthearted encounter follows a week of intense internal friction within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
On Wednesday, 11 February 2026, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), meeting in Mombasa, resolved to remove Sifuna from his position as Secretary General with immediate effect.
The NEC cited "rising levels of indiscipline" and appointed Catherine Omanyo, Busia Woman Representative, as the acting Secretary General.

Sifuna, however, has refused to go quietly. He immediately rejected the decision as "illegal and unprocedural," noting he was removed in absentia without a fair hearing.
By Thursday, he had secured a crucial victory when the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) barred ODM from executing the ouster resolution, effectively freezing the party’s decision pending a full hearing on 26 February.

A Brand Reborn
The "Mimi ndio Sifuna" slogan has since become a potent political tool. Analysts suggest that by embracing the TikTok trend, Sifuna is bypassing traditional party structures to speak directly to a younger, digitally savvy electorate.
As the battle for control of ODM continues, the Senator appears determined to prove that while he may be embattled in the boardroom, his "brand" remains untouchable on the ground.
