Road graders along the Rironi–Naivasha–Gilgil (A8) highway/KeNHA/X

Motorists along the A8 Road linking Rironi and James Gichuru Road Junction will encounter temporary lane closures starting Friday, February 20, through Saturday, April 4, 2026.

This comes after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced temporary lane closures on the A8 Road between Rironi and the James Gichuru Road Junction to allow for road works.

The closures are set to begin on Friday, February 20, 2026, and are expected to continue until Saturday, April 4, 2026.

According to KeNHA, the works will involve surface dressing along the affected section of the road and will be carried out in phases.

During the construction, traffic will be diverted to the remaining lanes or, where available, to service roads.

KeNHA urged drivers to observe all traffic signs and follow directions from marshals and traffic police.

"Motorists have been urged to strictly follow the designated diversion routes set up at each work zone to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance safety," the statement emphasised.

"Drivers should exercise caution while passing through the affected sections."

The notice was issued by Eng. Luka Kimeli, Acting Director General of KeNHA.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is a statutory body established under the Kenya Roads Act of 2007 and inaugurated in September 2008.

The advisory comes in days after the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Davis Chirchir, revealed that the stretch between Rironi and Naivasha will be completed by August 2026.

Chirchir stated that the project, which is under the main contractor, has been divided into 12 working sites handled by sub-contractors.

This will expedite the construction works along the road.

The CS stated that the entire Rironi-Mau Summit Road will be completed by June 2027.
