
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has confirmed that the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination result slips have been dispatched to all Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDE) offices across the country.
According to a statement from KNEC, schools that presented candidates for the 2025 KCSE examinations are advised to liaise with their respective SCDEs to collect the result slips.
"The 2025 KCSE examination result slips are ready for collection. Candidates are advised to visit their schools and collect the result slips," KNEC stated.
In a separate announcement, KNEC also confirmed the dispatch of teacher education assessment and examination certificates to sub-county education offices for collection.
The certificates cover several cohorts and programs, including DECTE and DPTE-2022 (Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education and Diploma in Primary Teacher Education), UDPTE and UDECTE-2023 (Upgraded Diplomas in Primary and Early Childhood Teacher Education).
Others are ECDE Certificate and ECDE Diploma-2025 (Early Childhood Development Education certificates and diplomas), and DTE, SNE, and PTE-2025 (Diploma in Teacher Education, Special Needs Education, and Primary Teacher Education diplomas).
Additionally, KNEC stated that TCAE 2025 certificates, which are for Technical and Continuing Adult Education, have been collected by the Directorate of Adult Education and are being dispatched to the respective principals of TCAE centres.
"College principals are advised to liaise with their respective sub-county education offices for timely collection and issuance to the eligible trainees," KNEC said.
The council further clarified that certificates for the DSTE 2022 cohort, which refers to the Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education, are not included in this dispatch and that communication will be issued once they are ready.
A total of 1,932 candidates scored grade A in the 2025 KCSE examinations.
This marked an improvement from 1,693 candidates (0.18 per cent) who achieved the top grade in the 2024 examination.
Speaking on January 9, 2026, when he was handing over results to the president, Education CS Julius Ogamba said 270,000 attained grade C+ and above, qualifying for direct university entry.
This is an improvement compared to 246,391 (25.53%) in 2024.
He said 993,000 candidates sat the national examinations, with girls accounting for 50 per cent of the candidature.
The Ministry of Education also said that 72,000 candidates from day secondary schools scored grade C+ and above, underscoring the growing performance of learners in public day schools.
The number of candidates with grade C- (minus) and above was 507,131 (50.92%) in the year 2025 KCSE examination compared to 476,889 (49.41%) in 2024.
The number of candidates attaining a pass grade (grade D+ and above) was 634,082 (63.67%) in the 2025 KCSE examination compared to 605,774 (62.76%) in 2024.
On overall outcomes, Ogamba said 507,131 candidates scored C- and above, while 634,082 attained a pass grade of D+ and above, qualifying them for various post-secondary education and training pathways.
The KCSE examinations were administered countrywide between October 21 and November 14, 2025.
