The Ministry of Education has attributed delays in the payment of allowances to professionals engaged in the 2025 national examinations to budgetary and cash flow challenges.
In a statement on Friday, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba acknowledged concerns raised by contracted professionals involved in the administration and marking of national examinations and assessments.
He, however, assured the affected personnel that efforts are underway to expedite the release of funds.
Those affected include supervisors, invigilators, examiners, security personnel and other contracted staff who played various roles during last year’s examination period.
“The Ministry wishes to acknowledge the legitimate concerns raised regarding the delayed payment of contracted professionals engaged in the administration and marking of the 2025 National Examinations and Assessments,” Ogamba said.
He emphasised that the workers play a critical role in safeguarding the integrity, credibility and timely delivery of national assessments.
“Their contribution remains central to the successful execution of the national examinations calendar,” the CS said.
According to the Ministry, the delay has been caused by financial constraints affecting the timely release of funds.
“The delays in disbursement of allowances have arisen from budgetary and cash flow constraints currently affecting the release of funds,” the statement noted.
However, the government assured the affected personnel that settling the pending payments remains a priority.
Ogamba said the Ministry is working closely with the National Treasury to resolve the matter and facilitate the release of the required funds as soon as possible.
“We wish to assure all affected professionals that payment remains a priority. The Ministry, in collaboration with the National Treasury, is actively working to resolve the matter and expedite the release of the requisite funds within the shortest time possible,” he said.
The Ministry also expressed appreciation for the patience and professionalism demonstrated by contracted personnel despite the delays.
“The Ministry appreciates the patience, professionalism and continued cooperation of all contracted personnel during this period,” the CS added.
The assurance comes amid growing concern among teachers and other contracted staff who have been awaiting their allowances for months after the completion of the 2025 national examinations.
Ogamba said the Ministry is committed to preventing similar delays in future and pledged to strengthen measures to ensure the timely payment of contracted professionals involved in national examination processes.
“Moving forward, we commit to safeguarding timely payment to our contracted professionals,” he said.
The Ministry indicated that further updates will be provided as progress is made in resolving the payment delays.
