A police constable who was captured by a CCTV camera during a robbery incident at Ajigo trading centre in Bondo subcounty will spend seven days in custody to allow sleuths to complete investigations, a Siaya court has ruled.

Police constable Mark Owino appeared before Siaya resident magistrate Jacob Mkala, accused of involvement in a violent robbery incident, with the prosecution asking for more days to complete investigations.

According to the prosecution, a number of the victims of the violent robbery who were injured were yet to record statements and the accused, being a police officer, was likely to interfere with witnesses should he be released.

Mkala, in his ruling, ordered that the accused be held at Siaya police station for seven days.

He said that though the constitution guarantees the right to bail, the prosecution had demonstrated sufficient grounds to justify temporary detention.

During the incident, armed robbers were captured by CCTV cameras while harassing a trader whom they stole from and took off on a motorcycle.
