Kenyan philanthropist and gospel singer Karangu Muraya has opened up about the immense pressure he faces from those seeking financial assistance.
Muraya, widely known for his extensive charitable work, shared a troubling message he received from a follower whose requests for help had gone unanswered.
The social media personality took to his official Facebook page to explain the reality of his situation. He revealed that despite his public image as a helper, he also deals with personal struggles.
He urged his followers to understand when he is not in a position to assist.
A Worrying Request
The controversy began when Muraya posted a screenshot of a WhatsApp message sent to him. The sender expressed deep frustration after multiple failed attempts to reach the philanthropist for support.

In a dark turn, the individual suggested that since Muraya could not help them in life, he should instead attend their funeral. The message requested that Muraya serve as the Master of Ceremonies (MC) at the event for free.

"Since I have tried so many times to request your help, I know you would not have lacked someone whom you could have connected me with, if you were in a position to. Don’t miss my funeral, do not fail to come... be my MC for free,” the worrying message read.
The message shed light on the emotional toll such messages take on those expected to provide a safety net for the public.
Muraya’s Response
Muraya’s reaction was one of vulnerability rather than anger. In his Facebook post, he admitted that he often goes through a lot behind the scenes. He explained that there are times when he simply does not have the resources or the "position" to offer help.
"Dear friends, I also go through a lot," Muraya wrote in his caption. "Sometimes when you ask me for something and I tell you I am not in a position to help, please understand me."
The Pressure of Public Charity
Karangu Muraya has built a massive following on social media by mobilising his fans to raise millions of shillings for medical bills, housing, and school fees. His "Mr Philanthropy" brand often makes him the first point of contact for Kenyans in distress.
However, this latest incident shows the "dark side" of this visibility. Being a one-man "rescue centre" often leads to unrealistic expectations from the public. While he has helped thousands, he cannot satisfy every request that enters his inbox.

A Growing Trend
This incident is part of a broader trend in Kenya where philanthropists and influencers face intense scrutiny and emotional blackmail.
Because these figures often post their success stories online, many followers believe they have an endless supply of funds or connections.
