Kenyan music is entering a new phase—one defined not just by viral moments, but by intentional growth, structure, and sustainability.
At the heart of this shift is Base to Billboardz (B2B), a newly launched artist development platform powered by Tusker and spearheaded by celebrated musician Bien, designed to bridge the often-missing gap between early success and true mainstream stardom.
Unlike traditional talent searches or short-term music competitions, Base to Billboardz positions itself as a career accelerator for artists who havealready built momentum.
The initiative targets semi-established Kenyan musicians—those with released albums or EPs, live performance experience, over 1 million career streams, and a growing digital following—who still lack the mentorship, structure, and industry access needed to break through to the next level.

Speaking during the launch, Christine Kariuki, Head of Mainstream Beer at Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), emphasized Tusker’s long-standing role in shaping Kenyan culture through music.
“Our goal is to grow homegrown talent from local stages to global platforms, reflecting Tusker’s spirit of unity, celebration, and cultural pride. By bringing artists together, we strengthen Tusker’s iconic legacy and champion the rise of Kenya’s next music stars.”
A Thoughtfully Structured Journey
The B2B programme begins with 30 artists selected from across the country, shortlisted by Bien in collaboration with industry experts representing diverse musical backgrounds. Public participation and further expert evaluation will then narrow the field to six artists, who will form the inaugural Base to Billboardz collective.
From February to July 2026, the selected artists will undergo an intensive six-month development journey, guided by Bien alongside three additional coaches. The programme blends artistic growth with business education—offering weekly hands-on workshops focused on vocals, songwriting, and dance and movement, alongside monthly masterclasses covering key aspects of the music business.
Participants will also gain access to professional studio sessions, industry listening events, and curated exposure opportunities, all designed to sharpen their craft while preparing them for larger stages and commercial demands.

Beyond Individual Success
A defining feature of Base to Billboardz is its emphasis on collective growth. At the end of the programme, the six artists will officially come together as a group, culminating in the release of a joint album, to be unveiled through a high-profile launch event.
The collective will also feature prominently in Oktoberfest 2026, touring the country and performing live as part of Tusker’s flagship entertainment calendar.
Crucially, support does not end when the programme concludes. Tusker has committed to exploring longer-term brand partnerships with participating artists, based on growth, performance, and alignment—signaling a shift from short-term sponsorships to sustained career investment.

Why Bien, Why Now
For Bien, Base to Billboardz is more than a professional project—it’s personal.
“Having walked the music journey myself, Base to Billboardz represents the opportunities I wished for when starting out. Many of these artists are already established, but what they need is that next level of recognition. This platform allows me to give back, share my lessons, and help nurture the next generation to reach heights they once only dreamed of.”
With over 22 years in the industry, from his journey with Sauti Sol to his solo success, Bien has firsthand experience navigating both the creative and commercial realities of Kenyan music.
Through ventures such as Sol Generation and Sol Fest, he has already helped shape the careers of artists like Bensoul, Nviiri the Storyteller, and Watendawilili, making him a natural fit to lead B2B’s mentorship-driven approach.
Building the Future of Kenyan Music
Base to Billboardz launches at a time when demand for authentic, homegrown Kenyan music is at an all-time high across digital platforms and live events. Yet many artists still struggle to sustain long-term careers due to limited access to guidance, industry infrastructure, and commercial support.
By addressing these gaps, B2B aims not only to elevate individual artists but also to contribute meaningfully to Kenya’s creative economy. Success will be measured through tangible outcomes—growth in artistry, audience engagement, streams, media visibility, bookings, and post-program opportunities—alongside cultural impact and brand resonance.
For Tusker, B2B builds on a rich legacy that includes Tusker Project Fame, Nexters, and Oktoberfest, while marking a clear evolution from spotlight-driven platforms to long-term talent development.
As Kenya’s music industry continues to mature, Base to Billboardz signals a powerful shift in how success is built—step by step, from the base to the billboard.
