USIU-A Martials backrow Tom Lomodong in action against Kisii Rugby at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho/ANGWENYI GICHANA
United States International University Africa (USIU-A) Martials head coach Tom Lagat has described Saturday’s clash against NYS Spades as critical in the club’s fight to avoid relegation.
The match will be played at the NYS Headquarters in Nairobi, with the Martials seeking to build momentum after recording their first win of the season last weekend.
“We are ready to go all out. A win against NYS Spades will lift us out of the danger zone,” said Lagat. “From now until the final match day, every moment counts, and we are fully determined to get positive results.”
USIU-A thrashed bottom-placed Western Bulls 57-15 in their previous outing, a result that boosted confidence within the camp. However, despite the emphatic victory, the varsity side remains 11th on the table with nine points, still inside the relegation zone. Their opponents, NYS Spades, sit fifth with 15 points and will be aiming to consolidate their position in the top half of the standings.
Elsewhere, log leaders Mwamba RFC, coached by Paul Murunga, will look to extend their lead when they face Homeboyz at the Goan Institute in Nairobi. Mwamba are tied on 25 points with second-placed JKUAT Cougars, but hold the advantage on points difference.
