In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Kimunya remembered Lucy as a loving partner whose memory continues to shape his daily life.

“On this date, 30th January, two years ago, our dear Lucy Wanjiru Muhinga left us, but her memory lives on in my heart, and every day of life, as I keep cherishing the love and beautiful moments we shared over the 40-odd years I knew her,” Kimunya wrote.

“We believe her ever-happy soul is somewhere up in heaven, watching over us, and constantly guiding our life.”

Lucy Muhinga passed away on January 30, 2024, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.

She had been married to Kimunya for over three decades, having met him while they were both pursuing their Bachelor of Commerce degrees at the University of Nairobi.

Their union, which lasted more than 35 years, produced a close-knit family and left a lasting impact on friends and the wider community.

Reflecting on the adjustment to life without her, Kimunya expressed gratitude for the support of friends and family.

“It has been another year of adjusting to the loss and new reality, and thankfully, the support system of friends and family has accelerated the ongoing recovery. To all those who have stood with us on this journey, we say a big thank you, and may God bless you aplenty,” he wrote.

He continued to share the depth of his personal loss, emphasising the enduring presence of Lucy’s spirit in his life.

“I miss her dearly, will always love her, and will always thank God for having given her to us for those years we spent together. May her soul rest in eternal peace and her spirit live within us forever.”

The former MP also acknowledged the grief and remembrance shared by family members.

She is remembered fondly by extended family members, including the Irungu and Kimunya families, as well as friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, at the time, eulogised Mama Lucy as a servant leader whose deeds touched many lives both within and outside of the borders of Kenya.

As the family observes the second anniversary of her passing, Kimunya’s tribute serves as a public acknowledgement of Lucy’s life and the love they shared.
