“The teams have been training for the better part of this month and we are anticipating very fast times. Several meet records could fall,” said Gaya. “All the plans for the event are in place and we expect a big turnout over the two days.”
The championship will be run using a fully computerised timing and results management system, allowing for precise timing, instant rankings and smooth race administration.
According to the organisers, the system mirrors those used in international competitions and offers young swimmers an opportunity to compete in a professional, world-class environment.
Gaya noted that the invitational has also attracted swimmers eyeing the upcoming National Age Group Championships, set to be held at Kasarani Aquatic Centre in a fortnight.
“A good number of swimmers and coaches have identified this championship as an ideal build-up for the national event. It gives them competitive exposure and adequate preparation ahead of Kasarani,” he observed.
Following the swimming championships, PIPSSA Kenya will turn its attention to athletics, with the Kenya Athletics Championship scheduled to take place at Kasarani Stadium.
The association will also run competitions in football and skating during the school term as part of its wider mandate to expand sporting opportunities for student-athletes.
The PIPSSA Kenya sporting calendar will culminate on March 7 with the Inter-County Sports Tournament at St Christopher’s School, Nanyuki.
The flagship event will bring together schools from across the country in a multi-sport festival featuring football, swimming, basketball, skating, taekwondo, chess and modern dance.
