He announced plans to construct two new VTCs in Karuna Meibeki and Simat Kapseret, with Sh43 million already set aside for the projects.

Bii said additional trainers have been employed and principals promoted to enhance service delivery. He spoke during a meeting with principals from the county’s 13 existing VTCs.

“Renovations at Eldoret VTC in Kipkenyo have been completed at a cost of Sh1.3 million, while Ng’enyilel Vocational Training Centre has been constructed at Sh100 million. These facilities will be commissioned soon,” he said.

The governor also announced a partnership with the KCB 2Jiajiri Programme, where the county allocated Sh25 million, matched by KCB to bring the total funding to Sh50 million.

He challenged VTC principals to lead outreach initiatives and maximise enrolment.

Bii emphasised that VTCs should go beyond routine training, embracing innovation and practical solutions to urban challenges such as affordable housing and infrastructure maintenance.

Each centre is expected to develop flagship innovation projects, strengthen industry partnerships and participate in exhibitions and skills competitions.

“This must change,” Bii said, stressing the need for better utilisation of tools and equipment.

He reaffirmed the county’s commitment to policy support, resources and an enabling environment to make VTCs engines of innovation, job creation and inclusive urban development.
